On July 25, 2023, attendees were updated with the most recent news from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and other WHV partners. Representatives from Veterans Last Patrol also participated, offering their assistance in recruiting Vet-to-Vet volunteers and planning community events.

- Each year, November is recognized as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month (HAPCM), a time to reach out to your local community, engage with media contacts, and celebrate staff and volunteers. The NHPCO team is excited to announce the theme for this year’s HAPCM – “Courageous Conversations.” Courageous Conversations can include:
- Eligible patients speaking with their loved ones and doctors about choosing hospice
- Patients on census speaking with family members about their plan of care
- Providers initiating conversations with eligible patients about hospice care
- Providers conducting advance care planning conversations and initiating sometimes difficult conversations with patients and their families before there is a crisis
